Thank you Jenny!

Joe Nole was on my interview panel when I was hired by Jefferson County Sheriff's Office more than 8 years ago. We made an immediate connection due to shared interests: We both had worked for the Forest Service. We both had worked as teachers. We were both liberals in an organization that is predominantly conservative. What I find most appealing about Joe is his ability to build consensus and maintain mutual respect in the department. I think he's a true bipartisan leader, because those conservative deputies are the ones who asked him to run, and I also endorse his campaign.

He is a true professional, with over 25 commendable years of service with JCSO, and he is a thoughtful individual who truly has the good of a diverse community at heart.

Stanko may be running with an (I) next to his name, touting his bipartisan leadership, but he must be confused. In 2014, he ran as a Democrat, although he is a lifelong Republican, because it was politically expedient to do so in a county that leans left. When he didn't secure the Democratic endorsement after the primary, he then ran as an Independent, again because it was self-serving and politically expedient. I think that (I) next to Stanko's name really stands for "me, myself, and I." That's how he runs his campaign-self-serving, politically expedient, and misleading, and that's how he runs his department.

I prefer a candidate who is exactly who they say they are. Joe Nole: a lifelong Democrat and law enforcement professional from Jefferson County. There's no confusion or misleading statements. Law enforcement by the community for the community and a darn nice guy to boot...

Here's my letter that didn't make it into the Port Townsend Leader before the endorsement letter deadline. Please feel free to share:
"I wonder whether Stanko views the lack of support from JCSO employees as a failure of his leadership. I think it’s very telling that not one JCSO employee has written a letter in support of Stanko. Many of these employees asked Joe to run, because he’s a man who garners the respect of his coworkers and is held in high esteem in the community. Stanko struggles to know his deputies’ names. These aren’t disgruntled deputies who don’t appreciate Stanko’s “high accountability standards,” as Stanko often pointed out when questioned about lack of departmental support; these are public servants who leave their families on holidays, birthdays, nights, and weekends to serve our community 24/7. They deserve better; we deserve better.

Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things. –Peter F Drucker

Joe Nole is a man who does things right, with over 25 years of service with Jefferson County, and more importantly, he does the right things. Although Stanko tried to use Joe’s thoughtful and deliberative approach to management against him, most recently by condemning Nole’s resistance to change in a Leader ad citing Nole’s Candidates Forum quote “He [Stanko] was asking me to do things that I didn’t believe in…And I drug my feet and I didn’t do those things.” I appreciate anyone who won’t blindly follow authority when a management decision should be challenged. Stanko selected his campaign manager’s wife for his Confidential Secretary. She had no public records experience, an example of cronyism; her lack of experience resulted in a large Public Records Act violation lawsuit. Change for the sake of change isn’t an inherent good; change for the better should be applauded. For that reason, I recommend a vote for Joe Nole; that is a vote for change for the better of our community and JCSO. " - Jenny Dyste

Another Endorsement!

We were honored to receive the endorsement of the 24th Legislative District Democrats, who met at the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribal Center September 9.

A request was made to consider an endorsement of Joe Nole for Jefferson County Sheriff, mentioning that five former sheriffs support Nole’s candidacy, and citing election results showing that 62% of Jefferson County voters supported Nole in the primary. Nole’s opposition to the current sheriff’s collaborations between the local department and the US Border Patrol under Operation Stonegarden was also referenced. The membership overwhelmingly approved the motion to endorse Nole.

“If there’s something that needs to be done and nobody else can do it, he’s that guy I always knew I could hand something off to and he would be able to get it done with little or no encouragement. He intuitively knew what he should be doing,” Hernandez said of Nole. “He’s a very humble person. His résumé is impeccable.”
